Post with 1 note
Much has been said, and by many people who say things better than I, about SOPA and PIPA and piracy, internet censorship and more, but I use the internet, so I feel like I should say something. I find the argument of stopping piracy will protect jobs, a pretty crumby one.
When I went college (as well as in high school) I may, or may not, have pirated large amounts of music and movies. Now I am older, and I don’t (not that I ever did) pirate anything anymore, and the amount of music I purchase, and movies I attend, has not increased. In fact, I attend fewer movies, and purchase fewer movies, now then I did in college, where I had access to a very large selection of pirated movies, thanks to Strange Search.
Although all of this evidence is purely anecdotal, I think Hollywood blaming all of their woes on internet piracy, and refusing to accept any of the blame for poorly running their business, is bad enough. But to try to push through legislation which, at it’s core, is so deeply un-American, is just shameful.
